A Moment of Reflection...

I'm not going to lie, 2012 has not been the year that I'd hoped or planned for it to be.  The short version is that I didn't work the way I needed to in order to hit my goals.  Am I a failure?  No, I don't think so because I haven't quit trying.  I just have to work harder at it in the coming year.

Although in the wake of the most recent shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in CT, I am reminded that life is precious.  I am also reminded that we aren't promised tomorrow.  I have to remember to live today like tomorrow may not come.  Garth Brooks had a song out years ago "If Tomorrow Never Comes" and then Tim McGraw had one called "Live Like You Were Dying".  They are both to remind us that we aren't promised tomorrow and we need to handle the things we need to take care of like making sure that our loved ones know they are loved and not to say things in anger that you may regret.  I try to remember these things because I know you can't "unring the bell".  Once something is said, it's hard to make up for it.  I have tried to teach my children not to say that they "hate" anyone by explaining that it is a very strong word.  We have a tendency to overuse words and they lose their meaning.

I pray for all the families affected by this tragedy, but especially the children.  I can't imagine the nightmare that they have to live with each day after having gone through something like that.  I know it has to be hard for those families that have lost someone, but those children who remain are confused as well.  There are many questions that come to light after a tragedy.  I pray that God can bring peace to those families and children that remain after this tragedy.

Done with Excuses!

As you may know, I have been dealing with a frozen shoulder since December of last year.  I'm still going to therapy for it.  It occurred to me, as I have this week off, that I need to quit making excuses for my bad behavior  (not eating any veggies or fruit) or lack of behavior (i.e. tracking, working out, etc.) because of my shoulder and then I got sick.  There is no way that I will hit goal if I keep going this way.  I still had two gift cards from the holidays so I decided that I was going to give in and use them the way I had been thinking about for some time.  One of my best friends has a FitBit and loves it!  I decided that is how I would spend my gift cards.  Today, after Family Zumba at the Y (more on that in a minute), we walked from our house to Radio Shack so I could FINALLY pick one up!  I have it all set up now and I'm so excited!  It monitors sleep, how many steps you take, if you take the stairs and how many flights you take, how many calories you burn by working out.  It's sort of like a heart rate monitor, pedometer and all together!  I can't wait for my first full day with it!

So, today, for the first time since my shoulder injury, I went to Zumba!  OMGosh!  I forgot how hard it can be and how much I love it!  Even my husband, after I gave him a hard time, came in and did it with me instead of riding the bike.  I love him so much for supporting me!  Our daughter went in and did it as well, but our younger son didn't feel up to it once we got there.  I have to admit my husband did a good job considering that he's not overly coordinated when it comes to dancing, but I love that he tries anyway!

I had a 0.2 gain this week.  My goals for this week are to track, hit the gym while I'm off even if I have to modify due to the shoulder not being at 100% and have a fruit or veggie with each meal!  Today has been good in that respect!  I had a banana with breakfast, I had an Oven Roasted Chicken Breast Sandwich from Subway (with hollowed out Wheat Bread) loaded with veggies and for dinner I had a Subway Club Salad with Ranch dressing on the side and Orange Juice.  Sadly, I'm going to have to try harder to hit my calorie goal, but I'm hoping to be doing better at that by the end of the week! :-)  There's my plan for the week!  What's your plan for your week?

Friend Making Monday (Part Two)

11) Do you enjoy cooking? I enjoy baking more than cooking, but I do enjoy cooking with my husband.
12) Do you have children? Yes, three.  Two sons and a daughter.
13) What are your favorite hobbies?  I enjoy singing.  I enjoy bowling, but don't get to do it as often as I used to.  Dancing is always fun and the kids are used to seeing me dance around the house! :-)
14) Would you consider yourself to be shy or outgoing? I used to be very outgoing, but I've noticed the more weight I have put on, the more introverted I have gotten.  My goal is to find the old me!
15) If you could change one thing about yourself, what would you change? I would try to be more open minded about different workouts.
16) Who is your favorite actor/actress? It's hard to narrow it down to just one.  There are several that are just amazing.  Eliza Dushku, Piper Perabo, Christopher Goram, Audrey Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart...yes, I'm an old movie buff!
17) What’s the coolest thing you’ve done this week?  I'm not sure because the week has just started!
18) Do you live near your family or far from them? We are all relatively close...within a few hours of each other.
19) List three of your talents. Singing, being organized and planning ahead.
20) What is your greatest attribute? I don’t give up.
Now it’s your turn to share your answers.  Don’t forget to come back here and link up in the comments!  Happy Monday!

Friend Making Monday...a day early

1) What is one of your favorite ways to spend a Saturday? We spend our Saturdays planning meals and shopping for them.  Beginning next weekend, the local Farmer's Market will be open every other weekend and I'm excited to go for the first time!

2) List your top three favorite TV shows.  It's hard to narrow it down to 3, but I enjoy watching Biggest Loser, Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice.

3) Would you rather be in pictures or take them? Though I’m not crazy about the way I look, I love to be in pictures.

4) Why do you blog? I started blogging because I wanted to hold myself accountable and remember where I started, but now my blog is a part of me.  If someone said to me “You can’t blog anymore” I think I’d fall apart.  I love to encourage and be encouraged.

5) Share five websites that you visit regularly…

~ weightwatchers.com

~ twitter

~ sparkpeople.com

~ pinterest

~ A few different news sites.

6) If you could have lunch with one person from your Twitter list who would it be? If I had to choose one, I’d choose either @alltheweigh, @TheBLblog or @HealthyLoserGal.

7) List a few of your favorite snacks. String cheese and apples; Celery and peanut butter; carrots and hummus.

8 ) Do you have a pet? If so, what kind? I have 2 dogs.  A mutt, she's a schnauzer/terrier mix and a Bischon Frise.

9) Which three material possessions would you struggle to live without? Droid, ipod, computer, Kindle Fire and sneakers

10) What’s your favorite drink? Water...if I need a change of pace, I like the True Lemon in my water.

Looking Back at the Month of January and the beginning of February...

I have been up and down in the last month-ish.  I haven't let go of my goal of losing 52 pounds this year.  I've lost 1.6 pounds so far this year.  If I continue to lose about 1.2 pounds each week for the remainder of the year then I should still be at my goal by January 1, 2013.

I now know what is going on with my shoulder which is definitely something!  I have adhesive capsulitis also known as frozen shoulder.  It has gotten me down recently.  Between the shoulder pain and the not feeling so good for the last couple of weeks.  I have been focusing on what I can't do instead of what I can do.  If I want to hit my goal, it's time to quit feeling sorry for myself that I can't do like yoga and focus on the things that I can.  I can still walk, I can still go do Zumba just minus the arm movements, I can still dance, etc.

I can do this.  One day at a time.  I am worth this.  I am worth the time and the effort to get this done.  I am worth the time it takes to track and to get up early and walk, etc.  I am worth taking care of myself.

Before Phots

So, I decided I needed to take a before picture to begin the year off right. In this picture I weigh approximate 187.6. If I lose 52.6 pounds this year, I will be at the goal weight that was discussed with my doctor.

Today, I have done 2 miles with Leslie Sansone. I am very tempted to go to Zumba, but I'm not certain that will be the best idea. I will have to modify to make sure that my shoulder can handle it. We'll see how I feel when it gets closer to time.

Thankfully my wonderful hubby got the battery changed out in my Polar heart rate monitor and in my pedometer. It is time to make sure that I do for me.

I found a quote that really hit home with me: "The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me." ~ Ayn Rand

I have more supportive family members and friends in my life than not. I have to focus on planning...planning my meals, planning my workouts. I can do this...with a little help and a little planning! Speaking of, I better get to my meal plan for the rest of the week! :-)
